MEET R. WES LAWRENCE

R. Wes Lawrence was born and raised in Washington, D.C. attending school and playing sports like most kids. It wasn’t until Lawrence, a.k.a “Big Wes,” graduated high school that he discovered his entrepreneurial prowess. While it seemed that his size, height and athletic skills were the likely avenue to his success, the nearly 7-foot teenager learned very quickly that marching to the beat of his own drum would yield the most favorable outcome.

While dabbling with collegiate athletic scholarships for a few years, Wes introduced to two of D.C.’s most influential party promoters in the city – Kibwe Hughes and Jamal Sally - who extended what would be a life-changing opportunity to a teenage Wes in the early 2000’s. The first party he promoted with the group ended up being the “biggest college party ever” in D.C. “the Palladium”. After he was able to successfully devise massive turnouts for several parties in the D.C. area, Lawrence began to promote his own parties at many venues in the city.

After moving to Atlanta in 2005 to play ball juggling his college basketball career and party promoting came to crossroads when he was offered a gig as a road manager for a International boy band based out of Atlanta called “ATL.” After touring Europe with the group, Wes quickly found his niche in the burgeoning Southern entertainment industry.

As a person who usually finds himself in the right place at the right time, Lawrence snagged the Iconic Idris Elba as a client. As Road manager and Head of Security for the top-dog of HBO’s hit series, “The Wire” the near 7-footer and Elba developed a friendship as a working team Lawrence accompanying the superstar to movie sets and DJ gigs all over the world. When Elba’s career shot to higher heights almost overnight, Wes made the decision to bow out – as he knew it was time to bring that career chapter to a close in order to move forward. Without being certain about his next moves, Wes made the decision to part ways with Elba’s management team and within a few weeks got a call from R&B crooner J. Holiday who was in need of a tour manager. No sooner than he got the call, Wes was on the road with Holiday as tour manager during his first national tour supporting Keisha Cole tour.

After years of touring the world with Grammy nominated J. Holiday; sharing stages with R. Kelly, Trey Songs, and Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly. Touring came to an end in 2010. Also in 2010 D.C. burgeoning rap aficionado Wale and Wes crossed paths with the Board of Administration leading the way the two immediately began a working relationship that would last for many years. Once again, Lawrence’s work ethic and reputation would find himself on the road with the Maybach Music Group artist. While proudly representing D.C., with the fellow native Wale, Big Wes was afforded the opportunity to join and associate with the likes of several major entities in music and entertainment including Roc Nation, Warner Music Group and Atlantic Record furthering a massive music movement that seemingly caught fire overnight.

Now that Lawrence has successfully made a series of smart professional decisions, it makes complete sense that he would continue make his mark in the music and entertainment industry by solidifying his brand I AM HIM – a talent management firm. After establishing quite the extensive tenure in such a small window of time, it’s safe to say Wes Lawrence is on the heels of his natural calling and he’s just getting started!
